A two-day Agribusiness management/empowerment training on catfish, poultry, cassava and piggery value chain was held at the town hall situated at Agbamuzu village in Bende L.G.A, Abia State, on the 2nd and 3rd of July, 2020 for about 100 beneficiaries comprising of youths and women from all the 13 wards under the Bende Federal Constituency in the State. The program was powered by the Honorable member Representative Benjamin Okezie Kalu, organized by Federal Cooperative Oji-River in partnership with BONAS INVESTMENT LIMITED and facilitated by REAP AFRICA INITIATIVE.
All hands were on deck to make sure the event was a complete success. REAP AFRICA INITIATIVE team of resource persons were on ground on the 30th of June, 2020 to supervise the building of the cages, arrival of the birds, bags of feeds, feeding trays and drinkers. We also inspected the hall and supervised the decoration and to made sure every other arrangement was put in place.
On day 1 of the 2-day event, nothing was short of professionalism. REAP AFRICA INITIATIVE TEAM supervised the registration, documentation, tagging, issuing branded shirts, caps and facemask before sanitising and directing participants into the well-spaced lecture hall in line with the COVID-19 guidelines on physical distancing. Lectures kicked off with an introduction to starting a viable Agribusiness venture in Africa then lectures kicked off proper with production, processing and marketing of cassava, poultry and piggery. Every session was interactive, packed with real-life events and on-farm experiences which was used by our resource team to connect directly with participants, training was done using projectors which also created a perfect atmosphere for better articulation. Representatives from the Federal cooperative college Oji River, the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and intergovernmental Affairs, Abuja were also present on the 2nd day and in their speech expressed satisfaction with the initiative and quality of the program.
At the end of the very inspiring, educative and colourful event, participants were issued duly signed certificates of participation by the DG Programs of the Honourable member after which they were empowered with mobile poultry units, 20 numbers of 4 weeks old noiler birds each, 2 bags of feeds each, lamps for heat generation, feeders and drinkers as well as financial support. The atmosphere was ecstatic and the people of Bende, Abia State from all 13 wards under the Constituency expressed their delight and joy for the initiative with gratitude to the man of the moment “Representative Benjamin Okezie Kalu” A passionate and visionary leader with a different ideology from what they have seen in past times, a leader who keeps to his promises.
